About Archbishop Dr.Cyprian Kizito Lwanga

Born on 19th January 1953 in Kyabakadde, Uganda, His Grace Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga rose from humble beginnings in Nagalama Parish to become one of the most influential spiritual leaders in Uganda and across Africa. He was a man deeply grounded in theology, education, and compassion, serving both the Church and the people with unwavering devotion. From his early education at Kyabakadde Primary School to his higher studies in Rome and France, he pursued wisdom with humility and purpose.

Honoring His Legacy: Advancing Primary Health Care and Nutrition

The Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga Foundation remains committed to carrying forward the late Archbishop’s enduring vision: health care that is accessible, dignified, and rooted in compassion.

As recalled in a recent public lecture, for Archbishop Lwanga, health began at home. He championed hygiene through the Women’s Department and established the Model Home office, entrusting it to religious sisters who went door-to-door teaching the first principles of Primary Health Care. From obutandaalo to basic hygiene practices like covering latrines, to nutrition awareness, his mission was clear: prevent illness before it reaches the hospital.

Inspired by that vision, the Foundation hopes to expand its work through the following community-driven programs:

Community Health Sensitization

We look forward to equipping more families with life-saving knowledge through workshops and home visits, focusing on disease prevention, timely health-seeking behavior, and proper nutrition.

Village Health Team (VHT) Support

We aim to strengthen grassroots care by training additional VHTs and providing first-line medicines, bringing essential services closer to households in remote areas.

Medical Outreach Camps

We hope to organize more free medical check-ups, treatment, and health screenings to those who would otherwise go without care.

WASH Programs

We plan to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, with the goal of reducing waterborne diseases and building healthier environments.

Health Centre Development

We aspire to establish health facilities to deliver comprehensive, ongoing primary care, in line with Archbishop Lwanga’s call for stronger health infrastructure.

Through these efforts, we hope to see more children regain strength through nutrition education, more mothers receive prenatal care at outreach camps, and more villages experience lower disease rates through improved WASH practices. Our goal is to reach more communities, empower more VHTs, and deliver critical care to those who need it most.
